"Quacktivism" is a term I coined for "queer hacktivism". I've proposed numerous times to our queer community over the years, hacking as an important tool of civil dissent. See my piece, "Guns Won't Save Us; Hacking Will":
gay-bible.org/write/3_guns.htm
Which has also been posted to Usenet. Click here to view that thread.
This recent virus called "Gay Worm" is apparantly the first among many quacktivist strategies about to flood cyberspace. Not that I orchestrated any of it; just pointing out an early, and effective, strategy. Personally, I couldn't hack my way out of a virtual paper bag. 8*)
I also suggested that forms of psychological (bloodless) terrorism be incorporated into our arsenal of effective dissent. Read on:

Italian Senate Shut Down By Gay Computer Worm by Malcolm Thornberry 365Gay.com European Bureau Chief
Posted: November 24 2004 12:01 am ET
(Rome) The Italian Senate ground to a halt Tuesday as a virus wormed its way through the upper house's computer system flashing gay pornography every time a terminal was accessed.
Computers in the Senate chamber and the offices of every senator were infected. The system's firewall was helpless as it was overcome by the fast spreading worm.
No matter what Senators or the staff did all that would come on their computers were hard core gay pictures.
The attack was in apparent retaliation for the firing of an assistant to the Senate's vice president, after images of him attending a gay party in Rome surfaced.
Dario Mattiello was spotted by a photographer at a gay nightspot in Rome. The pictures of Mattierllo were turned over to Sen. Domenico Fisichella a member of the ruling ultra conservative National Alliance and a close associate of Prime Minister Berlusconi.
The computer attack was "very sophisticated" said a Parliamentary security official. It was first noticed Monday night and by Tuesday morning the worm, one of the many variants of the Rbot worm, had infected every computer in the Senate system.
The Rbot family of worms allow remote hackers to gain access to infected computers, steal information and even - in some cases - monitor computer users
Tuesday night computer technicians were attempting to restore order to the system. Police are trying to determine the source of the worm but admit that it may be an impossible task.
Franco Grillini, an MP and honorary president of the gay rights group, Arcigay, said that Mattiello's firing was "in blatant violation of the most basic liberal values of contemporary Europe".
Last month Berlusconi's Europe minister, Rocco Buttiglione, was rejected as a candidate for the European commission for justice after branding homosexuality a sin.
Sen. Fisichella called the computer attack an act of terrorism.

While I think writing and spreading virus *IS* indeed an act of terrorism, the above example is kind of funny, especially in the view Buttglione is a real fascit christian fanatic butthole.
Why do I think willingfully spreading a virus is criminal? Well, if someone burnt your house down, and you lost all your belongings, you'd certainly think it was criminal, right? For me, most of my belongings are in my LAN's 4 computers, and if someone destroyed their contents, he's committed and act of terror against me. And if the law doesn't catch him, but I know who he is, he'd better hide a long fuckin' way out of my reach.
I suggest you don't promote your cause this way. I have nothing against queers, neither do I have any affinity with them, but I understand your plight for respect and tolerance. But going down the path of terrorism will not earn you much more sympathy than the Martyrs of Alaxa.

I am not proposing terrorism...and in this example, the accusation of terrorism does not make it so. I'm sure Gandhi was accused of terrorism, for his actions of civil disobedience. Blocking traffic and access to government institutions is an effective way to wake people up, and listen. In these days of electronic transmission and databases, civil disobedience must also include sabotage of those online services that serve a terrorist government. Defining *any form of online sabotage as terrorism, is equivalent to defining street demonstrations as terrorist. Furthermore, it is far more likely that our corrupt Fourth Reich gov't is more likely to sabotage your LANs, and not some misguided hacker.
