The Netbook That Started It All
01.15.09 (3:42 pm)   [edit]
I had the excellent fortune several evenings ago (at the Church Street Cafe), to meet this woman who actually owns the original netbook...created by M.I.T. geeks for the poor children of this world. She was more than happy to oblige me and my mini-camcorder.

I don't understand the significance or purpose of the flipping lid.

Usually, it's so you can use it as a tablet, and draw on it with a special stylus. Or even browse the web, with stylus instead of mouse...and perhaps do same with other programs. Remember my Wacom tablet? Also, one can read it like a book, by folding the screen over, and giving it a vertical position for conventional "paper" reading. The audio isn't that clear, but the woman I interviewed said she knows a kid that plays computer games in that manner...pressing on some buttons located on the screen's border; in lieu of keystrokes.
